Fiji's Justice Minister Siromi Turaga stepped down from his cabinet portfolio on Tuesday, following the widespread circulation of an explicit video online. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed he had received Turaga's letter of resignation and accepted it.
The video allegedly involving Turaga appeared on his Facebook profile just days before Fiji's 56th independence anniversary last Friday. Turaga, who was also acting Attorney-General, was reportedly in New Zealand when the video surfaced.
Rabuka stated that no immediate replacement would be appointed and that all government legal advice would now be provided by the Solicitor-General's Office. Turaga will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament and a member of the People's Alliance party.
