Figma announced new features at its first Config event in India, aiming to enhance how AI agents interact with design systems and to streamline the design-to-code process. The company debuted Figma Specs, a Markdown-based editor that allows users to define their design language and brand rules, serving as a reference for both human teams and AI agents. This feature can exist as a standalone file or within the design canvas, and can incorporate references to other Figma elements, FigJam diagrams, and code layers.
Additionally, Figma is making its code layers feature available in public beta, enabling users to add coding to designs for interactive prototypes and to convert designs into code. The company also highlighted its agent on canvas feature, now accessible to more users, and stated its intention to provide tools for more predictable AI outcomes. Figma's chief design officer, Loredana Crisan, noted the significant increase in code production driven by AI, emphasizing its role in design and discovery.
Further integrations include the company's acquisition, Payload, an open-source headless CMS, which is now being integrated with Figma Make for dynamic website generation and content management. Figma also noted India as its biggest market outside the US, with 40% of the top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange using its platform.
