Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the United States to abandon its "hostile" policy toward North Korea, asserting that this is the fundamental path to de-escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Wang made these statements during separate meetings with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac in Seoul on Thursday.
During his discussions, Wang Yi emphasized the need to address the root causes of the current situation and called for all parties involved to actively work towards resuming dialogue and restoring mutual trust. These remarks coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump's recent expression of willingness to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year.
Wang also took the opportunity to voice concerns regarding what he described as the rhetoric and actions of Japan's "right-wing" forces, warning against any attempts to reverse historical progress and insisting that the resurgence of Japanese "militarism" must be prevented.
