China's Finance Minister Lan Foan is set to deliver a keynote speech at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Finance Ministers' Meeting in Hong Kong. The meeting, scheduled for October 20 and 21, will bring together finance ministers from the 21 Apec member economies.
Sources indicate that presentations by three prominent financial institutions will also be featured. The draft agenda, obtained by the South China Morning Post, outlines a series of programs for the attendees at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee stated on Tuesday that the government is committed to providing a high-quality experience for all participants. He noted that the Ministry of Finance in Beijing is managing the registration and accreditation process, and that the meeting is a joint effort between the SAR government and the ministry. Discussions will build upon previous Apec financial meetings, focusing on global and regional macroeconomic conditions, fiscal policies aimed at supporting livelihoods, and financing for digital infrastructure.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan remarked that the meeting, along with the redeveloped Huanggang Port, will strengthen Hong Kong's connectivity with mainland China and the global economy. He highlighted that Hong Kong's trade with other Apec economies constitutes 87 percent of its total trade value, and that the combined domestic output of Apec economies accounts for over 60 percent of the global total. Chan added that the meeting will emphasize livelihood-oriented fiscal policies, digital infrastructure financing, inclusive finance for small and medium-sized companies, and youth exchanges in finance, areas where Hong Kong can contribute to global progress.
