Mark Broadhurst, a British Army chef, has been jailed for 46 months after pleading guilty to possessing explosives and a firearms offense. He was arrested in September 2024 after Counter Terrorism Police became aware of his extreme right-wing views and online activities. Searches of his home and barracks quarters uncovered a crude homemade cannon, gunpowder, crossbows, bolts, six large knives, and a baseball bat. The court heard that Broadhurst promoted hateful, racist, and anti-authority ideologies, and had expressed a desire to be remembered for terrorism. The judge noted that Broadhurst made the weapon and gunpowder to gain credibility within extremist groups.
