British maritime security company Ambrey announced it is involved in the salvage of the tanker Caroline Bezengi, which ran aground off the Omani coast. Additional salvage vessels are en route to support the operation. Specialist personnel have boarded the vessel to assess conditions and begin cargo stabilisation. The Caroline Bezengi has been immobilised since June 8, following a reported explosion, the cause of which is not yet identified. Several Western governments have indicated the ship is part of Russia's shadow fleet, used for transporting sanctioned oil. The Omani environment authority confirmed that an oil spill from the tanker has reached its coast, affecting up to 40km of shoreline, prompting Greenpeace to warn of a potential oil disaster.
