An appellate court on Wednesday reduced the prison sentence of former special counsel Park Young-soo by one year to six years on bribery-related charges. The Seoul High Court also imposed a fine of 200 million won ($150,000) and ordered Park to forfeit the same amount. The court found Park guilty of accepting 200 million won from a private developer for campaign funds. The developer had reportedly asked Park, who was then Woori Bank's board chair, to facilitate the bank's participation in a consortium for the Daejang-dong property project. A lower court had previously sentenced Park to seven years in prison, convicting him of accepting 300 million won, but the appellate court reduced the amount based on inconsistencies in the developer's testimony. Other charges against Park, including those related to the "5 billion-won club" and the Daejang-dong project, were upheld as dismissed by the lower court.
