Amnesty International has renewed its call for the release of Palestinian pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who has now spent 600 days in Israeli detention without charge. Abu Safiya, the director of Gaza's Kamal Adwan Hospital, gained international attention for his work treating victims during Israel's military operations in Gaza. He was arrested by Israeli forces on December 27, 2024, and has been held since without trial. Amnesty International highlighted his dedication to his patients, stating he remained at the hospital until Israeli forces raided it and arrested him. The organization emphasized that he is separated from his family and colleagues while continuing to treat children. In July, over 800 medical professionals in the UK signed an open letter to Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, urging her intervention to secure Abu Safiya's release.
