A&O Shearman, the soon-to-be combined global legal giant formed by the merger of Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling, is set to move into a new, larger office at 2 Broadgate in London's financial district. The firm announced plans to consolidate its London operations into the 360,000-square-foot space, which spans eight floors, as part of its strategy to accelerate integration and foster collaboration.
The move to 2 Broadgate, part of the Broadgate campus, is scheduled for early 2027, with more than 1,800 people expected to relocate in phases during the winter of 2026-27. This new location is adjacent to Liverpool Street station and the Elizabeth Line, offering convenient access for employees and clients.
Allen & Overy, which has been at One Bishops Square since 2006, confirmed its plans for the move in November 2021, highlighting the new office's sustainability features. The firm anticipates an 80% reduction in its annual London office carbon emissions, contributing to its commitment to a 50% reduction in absolute carbon emissions by 2030, as approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Shearman & Sterling's New York headquarters at 599 Lexington Ave., which underwent a two-year renovation completed in late 2022, will be retained by the combined firm. The firm stated that the approach of bringing people together into single offices across jurisdictions aims to create powerful financial synergies on the real estate side.
