The arena is intended to be the new home for his Dallas Stars hockey franchise, with Gaglardi aiming to have it operational for the start of the 2031 hockey season, as their current lease expires in five years.
Gaglardi's Vancouver-headquartered Northland Properties Corporation owns the Sandman Hotel Group, which has multiple UK locations including one adjacent to Gatwick Airport. The group also holds interests in the Portmarnock Resort and Jameson Golf Links in Dublin, as well as a chain of UK-based restaurants and sports bars.
The design for the new Dallas Stars arena is being handled by architects HNTB. Ryan Gedney of HNTB stated that the goal is to create a home that reflects the identity of the Dallas Stars and the culture of north Texas, capturing the passion of hockey.
This development comes as the Dallas Stars and the Dallas Mavericks recently settled a legal dispute concerning the control of their current shared venue, the 19,000-capacity American Airlines Center in Texas. The Mavericks are also planning their own new arena in Far North Dallas, with new NBA stadiums often incorporating advanced technologies.
