A private island off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, known as Strum Island, has been sold for approximately $6 million USD (8.4 million Canadian dollars). The 10-acre property, located in Mahone Bay, was listed by Tim Allen and Eric Meredith of Coldwell Banker Realty and sold in September 2025. It was originally listed for $9.95 million Canadian dollars.
Strum Island is situated about 2,100 feet from the mainland and is approximately an hour's drive from Halifax. Developer Fred Kern described the property primarily as a lodge, The Lodge at Strum Island, used for activities like duck hunting and sailing. Former owner Richard Goldenberg noted that the buyer could reside on the island due to its self-sustaining features, including mainland electricity connection, a private well, and a sewer system.
The construction of the lodge began in 2003, with the developer Fred Kern purchasing the island in 2001. The entire property took approximately 16 years to complete, with construction finishing in 2019. Goldenberg and Kern became business partners after the construction phase. Building on the island involved transporting materials via barge, with a seawall made of large boulders surrounding the property as a primary construction element. The main lodge itself spans 9,500 square feet.
