Spain's annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.5% in July, a 0.3 percentage point increase from the previous month, largely due to higher fuel and electricity prices. This marks the highest inflation level recorded since May 2024 and has kept inflation above 3% for five consecutive months.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile unprocessed food and energy products, also edged up by 0.1 points to 3%, indicating that price pressures extend beyond energy costs. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), used for EU comparisons, reported an annual rate of 3.8%, up two tenths from June.
The Spanish Ministry of Economy stated that existing measures to mitigate the economic impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are helping to control the effect of rising energy costs on inflation and household purchasing power. These tensions have recently driven up international oil and gas prices.
