South Korea's per capita household net assets saw a significant increase of 9.1% in 2025, reaching 274.7 million won ($185,600), according to data released by the Bank of Korea (BOK). This growth rate is a sharp acceleration from the 3% increase recorded in 2024.
The BOK attributed the rise primarily to favorable conditions in both domestic and overseas stock markets, as well as an increase in housing prices. The national balance sheet report indicated that total household and nonprofit organization assets amounted to 14,200 trillion won, divided by the country's population of 51.6 million.
When converted using the average exchange rate for 2025, the per capita net assets figure stands at $193,000. This places South Korea below several other developed nations, with the United States at $514,000, Australia at $422,000, Canada at $297,000, and Germany at $267,000. Japan's per capita net assets were reported at $172,000.
On a broader scale, South Korea's total national net worth reached 24,561 trillion won by the end of 2025, reflecting a 2.2% increase from the previous year. This growth rate was slower than the 5% rise observed in 2024. Non-financial assets, including land and housing, grew by 3.8% to 23,291 trillion won, largely due to higher property values. Conversely, net financial assets decreased by 20.4% to 1,271 trillion won, as debt increased at a faster pace (13.6%) than financial assets (11.4%).
The BOK report also detailed the distribution of net assets across different sectors, with households and nonprofit organizations holding the largest share at 14,200 trillion won, followed by the government (6,194 trillion won), non-financial corporations (3,657 trillion won), and financial corporations (510 trillion won).
