The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the completion of its latest strikes against Iran, targeting command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities. These actions are part of a broader effort to hold Iranian forces accountable for attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran's military stated that its forces targeted the US al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan and US military assets at the Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait. This exchange marks a significant escalation in regional tensions.
CENTCOM reported that U.S. forces hit approximately 140 Iranian military targets with precision munitions launched by various aircraft, drones, and naval vessels. Over three nights of strikes this week, CENTCOM has targeted more than 300 sites with the aim of degrading Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The command emphasized that commercial vessel transits continue, and since early May, U.S. forces have facilitated the passage of over 800 commercial vessels and 400 million barrels of crude oil through the vital international maritime corridor.
Previous strikes by CENTCOM forces, conducted on July 13 and July 7, also targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats. These actions were described as retaliatory responses to Iran's attacks on commercial vessels, including the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan, and Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity.
