Six people were killed and four injured in Ukrainian strikes on Russia's Belgorod region overnight, according to acting governor Alexander Shuvaev. A 14-year-old child was among the injured.
These strikes followed a night of intensified cross-border attacks, with officials describing Ukraine's actions as the "largest-scale" of the year. On the same night, Russian attacks on Ukraine resulted in at least seven deaths and over 39 injuries.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod, stated that nighttime shelling inflicted "serious damage" on the city, which is located approximately 40 km from the Ukrainian border. He noted that city officials were holding an emergency meeting to address the situation and that power restoration efforts were ongoing.
Ukrainian forces have regularly targeted Belgorod and surrounding areas since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Separately, the governor of the neighboring Bryansk region reported that Ukraine hit energy facilities using HIMARS missiles and drones, causing power outages.
In other developments, Ukrainian drones struck a DIY superstore in Russian-controlled Donetsk. An 83-year-old man was killed by a drone hitting a private home in the Moscow region, and a blaze was sparked at a Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk. Additionally, a drone attack in Russia's south-western Rostov region killed five people, damaging homes and a train station.
