The son-in-law of Russia's Aerospace Forces commander, Oleksandr Chaiko, was killed in an explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant in Moscow on August 1, according to reports from independent Russian media outlets. Daniil Perediry's sole proprietorship was terminated due to his death on that date, and one of his personal documents had expired on the same day, according to Russian databases cited by Agentstvo.
A source familiar with the matter told the Kyiv Independent that Chaiko was the intended target of the blast, which resulted in five fatalities and 21 injuries. Maria, Chaiko's daughter and Perediry's wife, is also believed to have been injured, according to Verstka.
The restaurant was reportedly closed for a private event on the day of the explosion, with eyewitnesses noting the presence of vehicles with black license plates, typically used by Russian Armed Forces and law enforcement. A security guard reportedly discovered a suspicious parcel, described as a gift, which detonated when he attempted to inspect it. Kommersant reported that the device was detonated remotely.
Russian officials have described the bombing as a terrorist attack, though they have not publicly identified the intended target. This incident follows an attack on a Ukrainian commander in Kharkiv in late July.
