Saudi Arabia and Yemen have condemned an attack on a UAE-operated oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, with Saudi Arabia holding Iran responsible for the consequences of its actions and calling for an immediate cessation of violations.
The attack and subsequent condemnations highlight escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, and underscore concerns about regional stability and the safety of maritime navigation.
Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned an attack on an oil tanker operated by the UAE’s ADNOC as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, labeling it an "assault on global energy security" and "on the security and safety of maritime navigation." In a statement, the Saudi ministry of foreign affairs declared that the kingdom "holds Iran responsible for the consequences of its continued acts of aggression and calls on Iran to immediately cease these violations." Yemen’s ministry of foreign affairs echoed these sentiments, calling the attack "a serious threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and commercial vessels."
The UAE had previously blamed Iran for the incident, which has also drawn condemnation from Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, and Syria. Saudi Arabia also expressed its solidarity with the UAE and support for its measures to preserve sovereignty. The Saudi foreign ministry additionally welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s condemnation of missile attacks by Yemen’s Houthis against the kingdom and against commercial vessels.
