S. Korea, US, Japan diplomats to meet on North Korea, regional security

Separately, South Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are set to discuss strengthening their cooperation, particularly in light of the ongoing Middle East conflict and other global challenges. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will co-chair the Korea-ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting with his Thai counterpart. Both regions are vulnerable to disruptions in global energy supplies and maritime trade routes, making enhanced cooperation a priority.

The agenda for the Korea-ASEAN meeting includes advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership vision, focusing on people-centered cooperation, growth and innovation, and peace and stability. Specific cooperation projects in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cultural industries, and joint efforts to combat online scam crimes and enhance maritime safety are anticipated. Discussions will also encompass improving the bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) and expanding cooperation in nuclear energy and digital economic integration.

South Korea will also seek ASEAN's continued support for its efforts to promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and encourage North Korea's return to dialogue. Foreign Minister Cho is expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts from various ASEAN member states during the ministerial meetings.
