Russian forces struck the front-line city of Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast with glide bombs on July 24, resulting in at least five fatalities and nine injuries, according to regional authorities. The attack, which involved two air-dropped bombs, also damaged residential and commercial buildings, as well as the Honorary Consulate of Latvia. Regional Governor Vadym Filashkin reiterated calls for the remaining residents to evacuate to safer areas. Sloviansk, along with Kramatorsk, remains one of the last major cities in Donetsk Oblast not fully under Russian control, though both are frequently targeted. Russian forces are currently positioned approximately 16 kilometers from Sloviansk's center. As of June 2026, an estimated 41,900 civilians remained in the city. Despite a general decrease in the intensity of attacks along much of the front line in 2026, Russia's offensive to capture the remainder of Donetsk Oblast continues, with forces having advanced into Kostiantynivka earlier in the spring.
