Russia summoned the Moldovan ambassador to its foreign ministry on Tuesday, protesting alleged mistreatment of its embassy staff in Chisinau. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that embassy employees were subjected to "force and threats of detention" by Moldovan police.
According to a statement, the ministry detailed two recent incidents where Russian staff in Moldova faced unreasonable delays at a border crossing and random document checks while traveling in the capital. In one of these incidents over the weekend, Moscow claimed Moldovan police used force and threats of detention against embassy personnel.
The ministry informed Moldova's envoy, Lilian Darii, that Russia maintains the right to implement retaliatory measures.
