The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 14 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,421,810 troops in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,120 casualties reported in the preceding 24-hour period.
In addition to personnel losses, the Ukrainian General Staff detailed substantial equipment attrition for Russian forces. These reported losses include 12,131 tanks, 24,932 armored combat vehicles, 119,862 vehicles and fuel tanks, 45,911 artillery systems, 1,931 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1,491 air defense systems. The report also stated losses of 437 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 407,201 drones, 1,905 ground robotic systems, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's General Staff has maintained operational secrecy regarding its own losses during the conflict. However, independent Western think-tank analyses, such as those from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), indicate that Russian casualties significantly exceed those of Ukraine. A CSIS report from January 2026 estimated the casualty ratio to be "roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1" in Russia's disfavor. This report further projected that Ukraine likely experienced between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action during that period.
