Romania's Defense Ministry stated on August 14 that the country faces no increased risk, despite documenting four incidents involving drone wreckage in a single day. These discoveries occurred amid intensifying Russian strikes in the Black Sea and near the Romanian border as part of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Authorities reported finding drone fragments in four locations: the villages of Greci and Plauru in Tulcea County, the Saturn resort, and the beach town of Costinesti. Debris found in Tulcea County was located within 5 kilometers of the Ukrainian border, an area previously affected by Russian strikes on Ukraine's port infrastructure along the Danube River. Tourists in Saturn were evacuated from the beach after wreckage washed ashore, with emergency services recovering the fragments. Another fragment was reported near Costinesti, potentially from the same drone found the previous day.
The ministry described the incidents as "collateral effects" from increased attacks on the Black Sea and confirmed that monitoring and surveillance measures have been enhanced. Romania is continuously monitoring the situation near its borders and adjusting protective measures.
Russia has recently escalated attacks on Ukraine's seaports and civilian vessels in the Black Sea, aiming to disrupt key trade routes.
