Nickolay Mladenov, chief of the US-backed “Board of Peace,” announced on Sunday that mediators are engaged in "intense efforts" to secure an agreement for implementing President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza. Mladenov condemned recent Israeli strikes across Gaza, stating they resulted in civilian deaths and the destruction of vital medical supplies.
Mladenov emphasized that both parties have obligations under the Comprehensive Plan and the Sharm El Sheikh deal, which facilitated the release of hostages. He indicated that his team is working "around the clock" with involved parties, mediators, and regional partners to de-escalate the situation and create an environment conducive to the plan's full implementation. He expressed that achieving lasting peace is challenging but attainable with concerted efforts from all sides.
The strikes in Gaza occurred despite significant efforts by the Board of Peace and mediators, including Egypt, Turkiye, Qatar, and the US, to encourage Palestinian factions to agree to a roadmap.
