Luke Brownsdon, who was convicted in Greece for the killing of British tourist Matt Jeffery with a single punch in 2019, has been arrested in the UK and is set to be extradited to serve his sentence.
Jeffery, a 35-year-old father of two from Yeovil, Somerset, died on May 29, 2019, after his skull hit the kerb following a punch outside a nightclub in Laganas, Zante. The incident occurred during a lads' holiday.
Brownsdon was convicted in Greece in 2023 and sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, he had already fled the country and returned to the UK, where he had been working while evading justice. In April 2025, he was arrested in the UK, initiating extradition proceedings.
The case also involved Adam O'Brien, who was initially convicted for throwing the first punch but maintains his innocence, with his legal team arguing he was wrongly identified. Witnesses and facial-mapping experts suggested William Locke may have thrown the initial punch, but he fled Zante shortly after the incident and has never been questioned or charged in connection with Jeffery's death.
Criticism has been leveled at the nightclub's security procedures, including poor crowd management and a failure to call the police during the escalating situation.
