Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported on Thursday that it had intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone over the southwestern port city of Bandar Imam Khomeini. The IRGC’s local division detected the unmanned aircraft within the city's airspace before engaging it, according to the Tasnim news agency.
Following the interception, parts of the drone landed on a residential property. Authorities confirmed that no deaths occurred as a result of the incident. An IRGC explosives team subsequently secured the wreckage, removed it from the house, and neutralized any potential remaining dangers.
The military has not yet identified the type of drone, its origin, or its intended target. Bandar Imam Khomeini is a significant commercial port located on the Gulf coast in Iran’s Khuzestan province.
