Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a missile and drone attack targeting a US airbase in Jordan. In a statement, the IRGC asserted that the "devastating and simultaneous missile and drone attack" completely destroyed at least two US fighter jets and caused significant damage to several others at the Al-Azraq base, specifically targeting fighter jet shelters and an aircraft parking area. These claims have not been independently verified.
The IRGC further stated that its Aerospace Command targeted vital military infrastructure and facilities at the Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, destroying its command and control center and MQ9 drone hangars with several ballistic missiles. The group also claimed its naval forces launched a drone attack on the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. According to the IRGC, these actions were in retaliation for US strikes on several locations in southern Iran and the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition to the military claims, the IRGC issued a call to Jordan's military, urging them to target US forces, which it described as "legitimate targets." The statement urged Jordan to "eliminate them by any means necessary and to cleanse the sacred land of Jordan of these killers of innocent Muslims." The IRGC also warned Washington of a stronger response to any further aggression, vowing an "even stronger response" to any "treacherous American regime" actions.
