Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, met with Oman's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Abdulaziz Al-Hinai, in Muscat to discuss the future management of the Strait of Hormuz. The discussions were held within the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and the sovereign rights of coastal states.
According to Gharibabadi's post on X, Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding calls for Iran to remove technical and military obstacles and conduct demining within 30 days. The MoU also stipulates that Iran will hold talks with Oman to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in consultation with other Persian Gulf littoral states, in line with international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states.
