The targets included fuel tanks, warehouses, large equipment depots, and barracks housing US troops at the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, as well as an aircraft hangar and barracks at the Jordanian al-Azraq Air Base.
These actions follow recent US strikes against Iranian ports and islands in the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating they targeted 21 US assets and destroyed four, including an F-35 fighter jet hangar in Jordan. Iran's state media reported that the strikes were a retaliation for US military actions.
Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan reported intercepting multiple Iranian missile strikes, with authorities stating there were no casualties. However, the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Defense reported that Iranian cruise missiles struck the Mombasa and Al Bahiyah tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. An Indian national was killed and another sailor wounded aboard the Al Bahiyah, while seven people were wounded on the Mombasa. A third chemical tanker was also struck northeast of Qalhat, Oman.
President Donald Trump stated that Iran would "pay the price" for delaying negotiations and for the attacks. The ongoing exchange of strikes has led to a significant decrease in the number of ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil chokepoint.
