Authorities in Gaza announced the recovery of the remains of 112 Palestinians from rubble in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, following 136 hours of extensive digging, much of it conducted by hand. The recovered remains included those of 40 children, 38 women, and seven individuals with physical disabilities.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provided support for the operation, which spanned nearly two weeks. Amani Al-Naouq, an ICRC spokesperson in Gaza, emphasized the critical humanitarian nature of the search for missing persons, noting that thousands of families have been waiting for over two and a half years to recover and mourn their loved ones.
Colonel Mohammed Abu Dan, overseeing the site for Gaza's civil defense agency, stated that crews believe approximately 157 additional bodies are still buried beneath the debris. Search efforts are ongoing despite challenging conditions, with teams sifting through destroyed concrete and twisted metal. The Gaza Health Ministry has confirmed over 73,300 deaths in the ongoing conflict.
