Daniel Kinahan extradited from UAE, charged in Ireland

Suspected crime boss Daniel Kinahan has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Ireland, where he faces charges related to directing a criminal organisation. The 49-year-old was apprehended in Dubai on an arrest warrant and transported to Ireland on an Irish government jet, arriving outside Dublin on August 9, 2026. He has been accused of involvement in international drug trafficking and firearm offences, specifically directing the activities of a criminal organisation between October 2015 and April 2017. Kinahan appeared before a Dublin court and was remanded in custody. The operation was a collaborative effort between Irish and UAE officials, who stated the extradition sends a message that perpetrators of serious organised crime will not find safe haven. This extradition is considered one of the most high-profile in recent Irish history, stemming from a formal request by Irish authorities and a judgment by the Dubai Court of Cassation in accordance with the extradition treaty between the two countries. The Kinahan cartel has been linked to a feud with the rival Hutch gang in Ireland since 2015, and an attempt was made on Kinahan's life in 2016.
