An Indian crew member is missing following an attack on a Cyprus-flagged container ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Cypriot authorities reported that the vessel, the GFS Galaxy, was struck by an unidentified projectile early Sunday. The crew abandoned the ship and were subsequently rescued by the Oman Navy.
The missing crew member holds the rank of third engineer. The GFS Galaxy is currently under tow to the UAE port of Khor Fakkan, where a search operation is actively being conducted to locate him.
The U.S. military initiated a new series of strikes against Iran in response to the incident. Foreign ministers of Britain, Germany and France have condemned Iran’s attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and on Gulf countries, calling for the restoration of a ceasefire and resumption of negotiations.
