The arrest by the Spanish Civil Guard took place as part of an operation targeting a network involved in drug trafficking and document forgery, which also led to the apprehension of three other individuals.
The investigation commenced in November 2025 following a tip-off about a suitcase containing 16 kilograms of hashish destined for the UK. Investigators identified the woman who made the shipment, noting she used false documentation and had logistical support from others. It was confirmed that one of the individuals involved was a fugitive wanted by British authorities for drug trafficking offenses, with an international arrest warrant issued in late 2025.
The operation was led by the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team of the Civil Guard in Alicante, with support from the Fugitives from Justice Team. Crucially, the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom collaborated, aiding in confirming the main suspect's identity and coordinating actions. Raids in Benidorm and La Nucía resulted in the seizure of narcotics, approximately €4,000 in cash, false documents, and two vehicles.
The detainees face charges of drug trafficking and document forgery. The primary suspect, a 49-year-old man, will be brought before the National Court for proceedings related to his extradition.
