Germany has elevated its security stance to a 'high threat level,' moving from a previous 'abstract threat level,' Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced in an interview with Welt am Sonntag. Dobrindt stated that the decision was based on increasing intelligence and reports, indicating that the risk of attacks must be considered at all times.
"Plans for attacks against our country are clearly discernible," Dobrindt was quoted as saying, highlighting risks to German infrastructure, individuals, and institutions. The Interior Ministry did not immediately provide further details.
Germany has experienced several attacks in recent years. In one notable incident, a Saudi doctor received a life sentence for killing six people and injuring hundreds by driving a car into a crowd in Magdeburg in late 2024. Separately, a Syrian national was convicted by a German court for a 2024 stabbing attack inspired by the Islamic State in Solingen, which resulted in three deaths and ten injuries.
