French regulator fines CNews €200,000 over immigration remarks

One of the segments featured a panelist who stated that individuals involved in violence were "children of Arab-Muslim immigrants" and that "they hate France and the French." In the other segment, a commentator invoked the "Great Replacement" theory, suggesting that the attire and behavior of a Belgian representative were part of an effort to displace French people.

The "Great Replacement" theory is associated with white supremacist beliefs, positing that elites are orchestrating the ethnic and cultural replacement of white populations through immigration, leading to a perceived "white genocide."

A spokesperson for CNews announced the channel's intention to appeal the decision. CNews, part of billionaire Vincent Bollore's media group, has faced criticism for promoting right-wing viewpoints on immigration and crime, though Bollore maintains these topics are neglected elsewhere and reflect audience demand.

This is not the first regulatory action against CNews; in June, Arcom ordered the channel to adhere to rules regarding pluralism and diversity of opinion, placing it on the verge of further disciplinary measures. CNews had stated at that time that it would contest that order in court.
