Auburn junior Ja’Kobe Tharp shattered the world record in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 12.75 seconds during the semifinal round of the NCAA outdoor track and field championships. Tharp's performance marks a significant achievement, surpassing Grant Holloway's previous collegiate record of 12.98 seconds and Aries Merritt's 2012 world record of 12.80 seconds.
In other track events, Habtom Samuel of New Mexico secured the 10,000 meters title with a time of 27 minutes, 51.31 seconds. Five field event champions were also crowned: Angelos Mantzouranis of Minnesota won the hammer throw, Dyson Wicker of Nebraska won the pole vault, Zaza Nnamdi of Texas A&M took first place in the javelin, Tah Chikomba of Kansas State won the long jump, and Ben Smith of Oregon won the shot put.
