Suspended Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas will miss the upcoming season after tearing a ligament in his right elbow, requiring surgery. The team announced Wednesday that Rojas felt pain while ramping up baseball activities in preparation to return from his 80-game suspension for a positive test for the performance-enhancing substance Boldenone.
Rojas, who was eligible to return on June 25, will undergo internal brace surgery, a variation of Tommy John surgery. The Phillies stated they anticipate him being ready for spring training in 2027. He had not played a major league game since July 2025.
Prior to his suspension, Rojas hit .224 with one homer, 18 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in the previous season. He was demoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in August 2025 and did not play for Philadelphia for the remainder of that season. His career statistics include a .252 batting average, .294 on-base percentage, and .340 slugging percentage over 250 big-league games.
