South African Michael Hollick claimed his first European tour victory at the BMW International Open on Sunday, achieving the win with a dramatic eagle on the final hole. The 39-year-old Hollick carded a final-round 5-under 67, finishing at 18-under-par for the tournament. He birdied the 17th hole and then eagled the par-5 18th, sinking a 20-foot putt to defeat his compatriot Hennie Du Plessis by a single stroke.
Du Plessis had held a two-shot lead with two holes to play but bogeyed the 17th and could only manage par on the 18th, allowing Hollick to snatch the victory. Hollick, in his rookie season on the DP World Tour, revealed that he had previously stepped away from the sport for a period to coach before returning to competitive play.
Hollick's final round included an eagle, six birdies, and three bogeys. Du Plessis finished with a final-round 66, which was ultimately not enough to secure his own maiden win on the tour.
