Zeus Wallet, a self-custodial Bitcoin Lightning Network wallet, has taken its infrastructure offline following a cybersecurity incident. The company announced on Wednesday that it is auditing its systems before restoring services.
In a post on X, Zeus stated that the attack did not put customer funds at risk and that there was no evidence of any impact on the Lightning node software. "Based on our investigation so far, we believe this incident was limited to Zeus infrastructure," said Zeus founder Evan Kaloudis in a company blog post. Kaloudis indicated that the attack was mitigated within hours and that customers whose Lightning Service Provider (LSP) channels closed during the incident will receive replacement channels upon service resumption.
The nature of the attack and a timeline for restoring operations were not disclosed. Zeus mentioned that the incident reinforces its ongoing work on trusted execution environments, or enclaves, and the Validating Lightning Signer (VLS) project to enhance its infrastructure's security.
