Key facts
- XRP Ledger's v3.2.0 server software upgrade is available.
- The upgrade aims to reduce operating costs and improve stability for institutional users.
- Only 43% of active nodes have adopted v3.2.0, with 51% still on v3.1.3.
- However, 89% of validators on the default Unique Node List have upgraded.
- A bundled security fix amendment, fixCleanup3_2_0, is in a separate voting process and lags behind software adoption.
- Ripple has voted in favor of the fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment.
The XRP Ledger has released its latest server software, v3.2.0, intended to enhance operational efficiency and stability, particularly for institutional participants. Despite these aims, the adoption rate across the broader network of nodes has been slower than anticipated, with a majority of active nodes still running the previous version, v3.1.3.
However, the critical components of the network, its validators, have largely embraced the upgrade. Approximately 89% of validators on the default Unique Node List (UNL) have adopted v3.2.0, exceeding the 80% threshold necessary for network-wide upgrades to take effect. This strong validator support is crucial for the network's stability and progression.
Bundled with the software upgrade is a separate on-ledger amendment, fixCleanup3_2_0. This amendment includes significant security fixes and improvements for newer network features such as lending protocols, vaults, and multi-purpose tokens. Unlike a software update, this requires a formal on-ledger vote, and its adoption rate is currently lagging considerably behind the software upgrade itself. Ripple, the company founded by the creators of the XRP Ledger, has cast its vote in favor of this amendment. Validators that do not upgrade and adopt the amendment risk being disconnected from the ledger.
