Erebor Bank, a financial institution catering to clients in the crypto, artificial intelligence, and defense sectors, is reportedly in advanced negotiations to secure approximately $1.5 billion in a new funding round. This round is expected to value the year-old firm at around $9.5 billion.
Major venture capital firms such as Lux Capital, Human Capital, Valor Equity Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, and SV Angel are anticipated to make significant contributions, alongside existing investors like 8VC and Haun Ventures. The capital infusion is crucial as Erebor expands its operations and aims to meet a mandatory 12% leverage ratio required by regulators within its first three years of operation.
The bank has seen substantial growth in its deposit base, which surged from $1.1 billion at the end of March to $4.6 billion by the close of July. Erebor's services include deposits, credit, treasury management, payments, and stablecoin products, targeting companies in technology, finance, and manufacturing.
As part of its lending expansion, Erebor recently led a $200 million credit facility for nuclear start-up Valar Atomics, acting as the administrative agent alongside JPMorgan, Crescent Cove, and Hercules Capital. This proposed funding round, if successful, would nearly double Erebor's private-market valuation from its earlier fundraising earlier this year, which valued the bank at $4.35 billion.
