Coinbase has announced the expansion of its derivatives trading services to professional investors in the United Kingdom. The crypto exchange will offer futures, perpetuals, and options contracts across a range of asset classes including cryptocurrency, stocks, commodities, and foreign exchange. Eligible professional clients will gain access to over 170 contracts. Perpetual contracts will be available 24/7 with leverage up to 50x, while dated futures will offer up to 20x leverage. The platform will also support calls, puts, and multi-leg strategies for crypto options. This strategic move follows Coinbase's recent acquisition of a MiFID license from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which permits the exchange to offer derivative contract trading to UK investors. The launch is part of Coinbase's broader 'Everything Exchange' strategy, aiming to diversify beyond pure crypto trading and establish a unified, transparent derivatives ecosystem. Coinbase had previously taken crypto futures into 26 European countries in March under MiFID II, with leverage up to 10 times.
