Chevron has announced a significant new oil and gas condensate discovery offshore Angola, encountered in an exploration well in Block 0. The well hit more than 2,000 feet of hydrocarbons, with over 300 feet of net pay identified in the Pinda reservoir, described as having excellent quality. This discovery could potentially be tied directly into Chevron's existing production infrastructure in the country, which would reduce capital expenditure and development time.
Chevron subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company operates Block 0 with a 39.2% interest. Other partners include Angola's state-owned Sonangol E&P (41%), TotalEnergies (10%), and Azule Energy, the joint venture between BP and Eni (9.8%).
The find follows first oil from Chevron's South N'dola Platform in Block 0 in December 2025 and aligns with Chevron's increased exploration activity in Africa, including three recent discoveries in Nigeria and planned drilling in Namibia. The discovery could aid Angola in reversing the decline of its oil industry, which has seen production stabilize around 1.1 million barrels per day.
