Canadian railroads ready for another large grain crop

Canadian National Railway (CN) has published its 2026-2027 Grain Plan, detailing its strategy to support Canada's agricultural sector and strengthen the nation's grain supply chain. The plan comes as CN concludes the 2025-2026 crop year, having achieved a record 10 months of grain movement across its network. CN anticipates shipping between 30 and 33 million metric tonnes of grain and processed grain products during the upcoming crop year, a volume well within its maximum sustainable capacity of 36.7 million metric tonnes. The company attributes its strong performance to collaboration with producers, grain companies, terminals, and customers. CN's plan emphasizes continued investment in its network, operational safety, and reliability for customers. It also reinforces a commitment to supply chain collaboration and transparency, with plans to continue providing weekly public performance metrics and monthly reports to stakeholders. CPKC has also outlined its preparedness in its annual service plan.
