Kieran Shanahan, chief operating officer of Walmart's U.S. operations, is leaving the retailer and will be replaced by the company's international division COO, Kyle Kinnard, according to an internal memo. Kinnard, who has been with Walmart for over 25 years and held various senior roles including executive vice president of health & wellness for Walmart U.S., will take over Shanahan's responsibilities.
This leadership change occurs amid a significant management restructuring under CEO John Furner. The move follows the departures of Tom Ward, COO of warehouse chain Sam's Club, and Cedric Clark, U.S. store operations chief, in May. Concurrently, David Guggina and Chris Nicholas were appointed CEOs of Walmart's domestic and international operations, respectively.
Walmart also announced the promotion of executive Juan Galarraga to oversee its international businesses in Latin America. Under Furner's leadership, Walmart has been emphasizing a technology-driven strategy to enhance its marketplace and delivery services and attract a higher-income customer base. The company had previously eliminated 1,000 roles in May and reiterated conservative annual sales and profit targets due to softer consumer spending.
