Singapore's United Overseas Bank (UOB) has appointed Tan Choon Hin to a newly created role as head of ASEAN and Greater China, effective September 1. Tan, who is currently UOB's deputy chief risk officer, will be responsible for driving the bank's regional business across its subsidiaries in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, mainland China, and its branches in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
This strategic move aims to deepen UOB's regional connectivity and capitalize on the increasing cross-border financial flows between Southeast Asia and Greater China. Tan will also lead the bank's foreign direct investment (FDI) advisory unit, which assists companies in identifying and pursuing cross-border growth opportunities by connecting them with relevant partners and industry networks.
In the last six months, UOB's FDI advisory unit has supported more than 300 companies with their cross-border expansion plans, involving projected investments totaling S$5.6 billion (approximately $4.38 billion). Tan, who joined UOB in 2012, brings over 25 years of experience in retail banking, credit, and risk management across various Asian markets. He previously held positions such as Head of Group Retail Credit, President and CEO of UOB (Thai), and Head of Group Business Banking. He will report directly to UOB CEO Wee Ee Cheong.
