The Teamsters Union announced it has reached an agreement in principle with United Airlines for a new contract covering more than 11,000 mechanics and related employees nationwide. This breakthrough follows nearly two years of negotiations and member-led actions.
The proposed contract includes significant gains such as industry-leading wage increases and an accelerated progression to top pay, reducing the time from eight years to five. Upon ratification, members will receive a $5,000 signing bonus, totaling $54 million.
The union's bargaining committee, composed of business agents and rank-and-file members, voted 19-to-12 to recommend the agreement in principle to the membership for ratification. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters fully endorses the deal, with General President Sean O’Brien stating it will "raise the bar for every airline worker in America."
Members will have the opportunity to review the full contract details and vote on ratification once the final language is confirmed. The agreement also includes a two-year extension of the Retiree Bridge Medical Plan and an expedited grievance and arbitration process.
