Video game company Nexon reported its third-quarter 2025 financial results, revealing a year-on-year decline in revenue and operating income, though net income saw a significant increase. The company's revenue for the quarter ending September 30 was ¥118.7 billion ($767 million), a 12% decrease from the previous year. Operating income fell 27% to ¥37.5 billion ($242.3 million). However, net income surged 41% to ¥38.2 billion ($247 million), surpassing forecasts due to a substantial gain compared to a loss in the same period last year.
Despite the overall revenue dip, Nexon highlighted the success of its newly released game, "Arc Raiders." Developed by Embark Studios, the game has sold over 4 million copies since its launch on October 30 and achieved 700,000 concurrent players on Steam in its second week, marking Nexon's most successful global launch to date. Nexon CEO Junghun Lee expressed confidence in "Arc Raiders" becoming a long-term franchise.
Other franchise performances included "The Finals," which saw a 58% year-on-year revenue increase driven by its September update. The "Dungeon & Fighter" franchise experienced a 45% year-on-year revenue drop, largely attributed to a 2024 mobile release, though its PC version saw a 72% surge in Q3, particularly in China. "MapleStory" revenue grew 61% year-on-year, with expectations of further growth in Q4.
Nexon CEO Junghun Lee also addressed the use of artificial intelligence in game development, stating that it is becoming a standard practice and emphasizing the importance of strategic implementation to maintain competitiveness.
