Lloyds Banking Group has announced it will phase out the Halifax brand, marking the end of the retail bank's 173-year presence on the high street. The group intends to migrate existing Halifax accounts to the Lloyds brand and will begin removing Halifax signage from 190 of its 531 branches in early 2027. Lloyds stated that this move aims to simplify customer service under a single main consumer banking unit and assured that no branch closures or job reductions would occur as a result. The Bank of Scotland brand will continue to operate in Scotland. Halifax was founded in 1852 as a building society and later merged with Bank of Scotland to form HBOS, which was subsequently rescued by Lloyds during the 2009 financial crisis.
