ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro informed staff via a memo on Tuesday about a new round of layoffs, explaining that the majority of the job impacts are connected to the company's recent acquisition of NFL assets. ESPN acquired the NFL Network, the league's fantasy football business, and the NFL RedZone highlights show in late January, in exchange for a 10% stake in the Disney-owned sports giant. Pitaro noted that while most cuts are tied to this integration, some positions in other areas of the company will also be affected. He emphasized the company's commitment to treating employees with compassion and respect during this transition. This follows earlier layoffs at ESPN in mid-April, which were part of broader workforce reductions at its parent company, Disney. ESPN is set to broadcast its first Super Bowl in February, with ABC simulcasting the event.
