Emirates has launched a new headrest, named the U-Dream, across its economy class cabins, aiming to enhance passenger comfort and sleep quality on long-haul flights. This innovation features flexible side wings designed to cradle the head and neck, preventing it from falling forward or sideways. Emirates claims to be the first airline worldwide to implement this specific headrest design.
Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airline, highlighted the U-Dream's potential to improve the travel experience for economy passengers, stating it eliminates the need for supplementary neck pillows. He emphasized the airline's commitment to customer experience and positioning its economy class as superior.
The rollout has already begun, with three Airbus A350 aircraft currently equipped with the U-Dream headrest. The airline intends to fit the entire A350 fleet by the end of the current year. Subsequently, Emirates plans to install the headrest on its retrofitted A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft starting in 2027.
This development follows other recent innovations in economy class travel, such as United Airlines' introduction of rows without middle seats and 'relax rows' that convert into beds, and Air New Zealand's offering of bunk beds on ultra-long-haul flights.
